Today in PR Campaigns class we learned about strategic communication tactics. There are 4 different types of tactics interpersonal communication, organizational media, news media, and advertising/promotional media. Interpersonal communication is the best at persuading people and the least at reaching its audience. Advertising and promotional media is the best at reaching its audience but the worst at persuading them.
Today in class we learned about different attacks on the arts. The “2 Live Crew” album called “As Nasty as They Wanna Be” was declared obscene in Florida but was overturned. A Public art museum proscribed for obscenity for putting up homo-erotic photos. The government thought about forcing all record companies to put sexually explicit or violence lyrics on CD’s but they decided to do it themselves. Congress tried to require the National Endowment of the arts to only fund artists if their work fit within certain standards of decency, Supreme Court said it was ok if its only advisory and not mandatory.
Today in PR Campaigns I learned how to implement a strategic plan. A strategic plan needs a campaign book with is the formally written display of your findings. There should be a title page, table of contents, executive summary, situation analysis, recommendations, schedule, budget and evaluation plan. Each section other than the executive summary should have an introduction paragraph introducing the reader to what they are about to look at.
Today in Media Law we learned about the differences between obscenity and pornography. Pornography also known as indecent material is “sexually graphic writing, pictures, film, drawings designed to arose sexual desire.” This material is protected by 1st amendment. On the other hand obscenity is denied 1st amendment protection. The definition of obscenity is hardcore pornography that is so potentially offensive and so lacking in social value.
